Student & Teacher of the Month January 2018

The purpose of the Trojan of the Month Award also known as Student of the Month is to recognize an outstanding student for his/her academic achievement, character, leadership, and overall positive impact on Millington Central High School and on the greater Millington community.

The January student of the month is Beida Copitzi Antunez Segura.

Beida is a unique individual that would like to attend the University of Knoxville and study biomedical engineering, but you have to understand where Beida came from and when she she got started on this dream that really identifies her as unique and deserves the recognition of Trojan Student of the Month.  On Bieda’s first day in high School in the United States, Beida did not know the English language, our culture, our school rules, teen attire, and had no friends to ask for help.  She quickly met the ESL teacher at Woodstock HS and the learning began. She understood It was time to learn a new language and culture as fast as possible so that she would not get behind academically.  She was also preparing for college in the US that the pressure was on.  She did not go through a silent period as most English Language Learners do, because she embraced the change of knowing what her parents were sacrificing for her.  It was difficult, but soon she was on the honor roll.

Beida also helps with community service.  She recently worked the marathon at St. Jude and wrote that “This activity was something new to me that I enjoyed very much”.  It was also her first time assisting a marathon. This activity impacted her greatly and made her reevaluate the meaning of helping other’s. Another thing that she learned was that everyone needs a cheerleader as they go through their life. Beida wrote “We never know if someone is hurting or giving up until we get involved.” She loved completing her first volunteer work and writes that “I will continue in the future”.

Additionally, at home, she has the added responsibility of cleaning the house, cooking for the family, and doing all the house chores.  Beida’s mom is a professional in Mexico and must stay there for work. Beida does not complain and helps out as much as possible, while maintaining a positive attitude.   This year is her last year in high school and she is now applying for colleges and scholarships so that she can obtain a bachelor’s degree. College will be another growing experience for Beida and everything that she knows will be different, again, but I know she is ready to take on this challenge.  I think she is an exceptional student that should be recognized. Congratulations Beida!

The January Teacher of the Month is Christina Withers.

This teacher deserves this award because she is an amazing coach of the cheerleading team and is always pro student. She is always looking to bring school spirit to the school by coming up with fun activities and designs for homecoming and donating her time and efforts with the pep bus for football and volleyball.

 Congratulations Ms. Withers!
