MILLINGTON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC HISTORY
Mrs. Megan Woodring, Band Director
This class is designed to provide students with a wide musical experience. We will explore the elements of music, the periods of musical history, composers, and famous works. Students will listen, analyze, evaluate, and even perform various types of music throughot this course.
You will need ONE (1) pocket folder for this class. We will be taking notes almost every day. Staff paper and worksheets will be provided for you. ALWAYS bring a PENCIL to class. (NO INK PENS.)
NOTE: All materials should be in hand EVERY DAY. Any student who does not have his/her materials on any given day will lose two (2) participation points per day.
Your grade in MUSIC class is based upon three areas. Participation, Notes, and Tests/Quizzes.
In each section below, you will find the criterion associated with each grading category. All term grades are FINAL. It is the student’s responsibly to make up any missed grades. The grading categories and details thereof are listed below.
Part of the grading system for music is a "Performance Based" grading system. The following criteria will be used when determining a student’s trimester grade:
1. Student is on time to class
2. Has appropriate materials
3. Attentive and exhibiting good conduct
Music is a participation class. If a student chooses not to participate, on any given day they will lose points for that day. If that non-participating student chooses to disrupt or distract others, they will be subject to disciplinary action.
There will be weekly Note Taking grades taken to ensure that students are recording necessary information. Please take good notes!
Throughout this class, students will have several written assignments, as well as tests and quizzes. Tests and quizzes will consist of multiple choice, true/false, short answer, and essay questions.
1. Tardiness will not be tolerated. Tardies will result in 3 points deducted from the participation grade for each tardy.
2. Students may use the restrooms in the band room; however, they should do so before or after class.
3. Students will not be allowed to leave class to go to another teacher’s room for ANY reason (unless that student is involved in a field trip THAT day or is requested by an administrator). Please do not ask to go to another teacher’s room to work on a project, to “help” that teacher, or for any other reason.
Violation of the Music rules will result in a loss of participation points AS WELL AS possible disciplinary action. Points will be deducted as follows:
Tardy to class (i.e., not in seat when bell rings) 5 points
Vandalizm: 10 points
Cell phones 10 points
Disrespect to Teacher or Student Leaders 10 points
Food or drink in class 15 points
Noise in hallway on the way to Music Room 15 points
Disrespecting a Substitute Teacher 20 points
Once a student has lost 25 points, I will be contacting parents/guardians to discuss.
Severe disciplinary infractions may result in an office referral.
