Coach
I'm Coach Jewell Gates. This is my first year at MCHS but I am no stranger to Millington, TN. I grew up in Munford in the 70's and 80's. Today's Munford looks nothing like the Munford I was raised in. We came to the big city (Millington) for our Friday night after football and basketball games. My coaching career began in Tipton County in the early 90's at Munford Middle. I spent six wonderful years at Munford Middle School. I coached at Brighton High for five years. The 1999-2000 Brighton Cardinals finished 26-6. We were ranked in top 5 in AA basketball, most of that season. We were fortunate to be the 2000 district champions, also. With the inception of Southwind High School in August of 2007, I was named varsity assistant basketball coach and Athletic Director. I spent a great nine years coaching there. We were blessed in 2013 to become Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association AAA State Champions. Those nine years spent at Southwind High were a great experience for me. Being a state champion was my greatest moment in coaching but now that moment has been surpassed. My greatest moment in coaching happened in May of 2016, that's when I was named head coach here at MCHS. I am very proud to be wearing the Black and Old Gold of Millington Central High School. I look forward to leading our young men on the court as their basketball coach. As a team, we will play hard every night, every single second of our games. We will make that our trademark. Our core values of hard work and togetherness will enable us to be successful on and off the basketball court. I am not leading them only in basketball, but I will lead them through high school, as they prepare for college , and into their successful future as young men in our society.
