Course Title: Naval Science 2&3

Naval Science 2 text. 3rd edition

Course Description: Meteorology

Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of Naval Science I.  (Note that Naval Science II and III may be taken in any sequence.)  The Naval Syllabus Science II/III curriculum nautical sciences, meteorology as well as continuing leadership and responsibility training.  Satisfactory completion of Naval Science II/III earns one elective credit.

 

Course Objectives:
1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of meteorology and evaluate how it effects us.

2. Describe the aspects of the Earth's atmosphere.

3. Analyze the formation of thunderstorms and hurricanes.

4. Demonstrate proper wearing of uniform and military bearing IAW CFM.

5. Demonstrate proper drill and military bearing IAW CFM.

6. Demonstrate Physical Training IAW CRM

 

Course Schedule:

Monday& Tuesday- Academics (We will study weather)

Wednesday- Thursday- Uniform Inspection and Drill(Cadets demonstrate leadership skills)

Friday- Physical Training

 

Grading Criteria:

Uniform Grade:

  • Accounts for 30% of your grade.

  • I will average approximately 9 uniform grades per marking period.

  • This grade is based on the proper wearing and maintenance of your uniform as determined by formal inspection.

  • You are required to wear your uniform throughout the entire school day on Uniform day. Failure to do so will affect your uniform grade.

Academics:

  • Accounts for 30% of your grade

  • I will average the daily academic grades with the exam results per marking period.

  • This grade is determined by classroom participation, homework and test results.

  • Daily grade will be 97%. The grade can increase or decrease based on performance, and military bearing. The daily grade will account for 50% of the academic grade.

  • Tests, formal papers and projects will account for 50% of the academic grade.

Activities (Physical Training and Drill):

  • Accounts for 30% of your grade

  • I will average 18academic grades per marking period.

  • This grade is determined by dressing out for the event and the level of participation during the event.

Leadership Accounts for 10% of your grade per marking period.
