Course Title:  Naval Science 1

Naval Science 1 Text Book

Course Description and Objectives:

They will learn to:

-Appreciate the ethical values that underlie good citizenship.

-Develop leadership potential and learn to live and work cooperatively with others

-Think logically and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

-Appreciate the importance of physical fitness in maintaining good health.

-Understand ways to resist negative peer pressure and support others.

-Develop mental management abilities.

-Become familiar with military history as it relates to America's culture and with the history, purpose, and structure of the military service.

-Understand the importance of high school graduation to a successful future.

-Learn about college and other advanced educational and employment opportunities and develop the skills necessary to work effectively as a member of a team.

Course Schedule:

Mondays and Tuesdays - Academics

Wednesday - Thursday -Uniform Inspection - Drill

Friday - Physical Training

Grading Criteria:


-Accounts for 30% of your grade
-I will average the daily academic grades with the exam results per marking period.
-This grade is determined by classroom participation, homework and test results.

Uniform Grade:

-Accounts for 30% of your grade
-I will average approximately 9 uniform grades per marking period
-This grade is based on the proper wearing and maintenance of your uniform as determined by formal inspection each Wednesday
-You are required to wear your uniform throughout the entire day on Wednesday.  Failure to do so will affect your uniform grade.

Activities (Physical Training and Drill):

-Accounts for 30% of your grade
-I will average 18 activities per marking periods
-This grade is determined by dressing out for the events and the level of participation during the event
