Virtual Student FAQs

Virtual Student Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I start?
Watch the virtual orientation video on the VIRTUAL tab here on the website. It will give you basic information on how the program works.

I'm having a problem with my computer. What do I do?
If your machine is malfunctioning (won't charge, screen isn't working, key is broken, etc.) you need to submit a technology work order. You can access that option in Clever.

I'm stuck in Edgenuity because I have failed a quiz and can't move forward. What do I do?
Email your teacher for that class. Teachers will check emails and clear holds in Edgenuity during their planning periods each school day. It may be the following school day before the hold is released. You can work in another class until then.

What do I do if I don't understand the material in my course?
Each teacher has virtual office hours during the day all week. The list of times and links to the meetings in Teams is available under the VIRTUAL tab here on the website. Please go into their Team meeting to get face to face help with any concept you don't understand.

I can't see one of my classes in Thrivist. Who do I tell?
You should be able to see all of your courses (except study hall or office worker) in Thrivist. If you can't, email your teacher for that class and let them know you can't see their class in Thrivist.

I don't understand how to submit my assignment in Thrivist. What do I do?
Email your teacher for that class and request help or join their Team meeting during their virtual office hours.

I'm enrolled in the wrong class in Edgenuity. I'm missing a class in Edgenuity.
Email Ms. Szalay at [email protected]

My coursework is in Edgenuity. Why is my class in Thrivist also?
Thrivist is the landing page for everyone this year. You should have access to all courses there and be able to find your teacher's name, email address, office hours, and link to their Teams meeting. If their class isn't in Edgenuity, they will post their work in Thrivist for you to complete. If their class is in Edgenuity, they should direct you to log on there to complete it.

Do I have to attend any virtual meetings with my class or my teacher?
No, virtual meetings are not mandatory. However, if you are having difficulty with any concepts or assignments in your classes, you are encouraged to attend a teacher's virtual office hours for help.

Do I have to log on to my classes every day?
Students are encouraged to keep a schedule and log on daily for best performance. For attendance policies and to understand virtual absences, please refer to the Virtual Attendance Policy tab.

I don't have Internet access at home and I can't complete my work. Can I get a hot spot?
We are a bit limited on extra hot spots at the moment, but if you don't have access to Internet, please email a request to Ms. Szalay at [email protected] and we will do our best to help you out.

What do I do if my hot spot doesn't work?
If you have a Tmobile hot spot, try removing the battery, reinserting it, and turning the hot spot back on. Typically, that will take care of connectivity issues. If you can't get a signal where you live, let Ms. Szalay know and we will try to swap it out for a hot spot with different service. If you have any other issues with your hot spot, contact Ms. Szalay.

I can't remember my password!
Your password is mmsd + your lunch number (ex. mmsd12345). The mmsd must be lower case.

I can't get logged into Edgenuity or Thrivist. Help!
Make sure you are logging in via Clever. In Chrome, go to the MMSD Managed folder at the top of the browser and click Clever. Select Log in with Active Directory and enter your school email and password if necessary. You can access both Thrivist and Edgenuity from there. If you still have issues, you may need to clear the cache in your browser.

Is there any after hour help available if I need it?
Yes! There are teachers available Monday - Thursday evenings. Schedule to be posted soon.
