The 40 Essential Rudiments are required.
Start at a slow tempo & accelerate to a roll for a minimum of (5) seconds.

CHROMATIC SCALES
1. Flute - C to C, 3 octaves
2. Clarinet- E to E, 3 octaves
3. Saxophones- Low Bb to High F above the staff
4. Trumpet- Low F# below the staff to High C above the staff
5. French Horn / Mello - Low C below the staff to High G above the staff 
6. Trombone- Low E to Bb (second octaves
7. Baritone (Bass Clef)- same as Trombones
8. Tuba or Sousaphone- Low E to Bb (second octave)

PERFORMANCE PREPARED PIECE: 
All Winds - Perform two solos or etudes of your choice.

The choices should be contrasting:
1.Slow, lyrical playing
2. Proficiency in technique and articulation.
3. Any piece Grade 4 or above would be considered appropriate.
4. See Band DIrectors for guidance.
5. Percussion - Students should prepare etude/solo on snare drum 

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:

1.      Do I have to audition for the MCHS Band?

a.       No. You will need to have experience in middle school and will need to attend summer band camp and after school rehearsals. However, if you are interested and have never been in the band, please be sure to speak with Mr. Smith and we will interview you.

2.      When is summer band camp?

July 29th - August 2nd: 6:00pm - 8:30pm

3.      May I play in Sports and be in the Band?

a.       Yes. We have numerous band-athletes that participate in sports. This school year we have band-athletes in soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, golf, wrestling, and track.

4.      May I enroll in ROTC and Band?

a.       If your schedule permits, you may participate in both ROTC and Band. We have many students enrolled in both programs who are very successful.

5.      Is there a cost to join?

a.       Yes. The yearly fee is $300. This may be paid in payments after the initial $100 deposit but must be paid in full to participate in All-West Auditions or to attend band trips. If your family has a financial burden, please contact Mr. Smith for alternative arrangements at [email protected]

6.      Are there after-school commitments?

a.       We play at the Munford Game and home football and basketball games.

b.       During Concert Band season, after-school rehearsals are held as needed.

7.      How do I register for the band at Millington Central High School?

a.       If you played a percussion instrument in a band last year, sign up for Percussion.

b.       If you played a wind or brass instrument, sign up for Symphonic Band.

8.       Is there any paperwork I need to complete in addition to registering for classes at MCHS?

a.       Yes. Please click on the Band Online Registration link at the top of this page to complete the information needed by your directors for the band season.

9.      I am a transfer student. What do I need to do?

a.     Contact the MCMHS School at 901-873-8100 to get more information.

10.   Do I need my own instrument?

a.      MCHS Band owns a select number of school instruments. If your student needs an instrument, please email Mr. Smith at ksmith@millingtonschools.
