Members of the Academic Team are tested on various topics, ranging from naval knowledge to current events. The Academic Team teaches cadets study skills as well as a better understanding of the Navy’s traditions.

Cadets on the Air Rifle Team compete in various drill meets by shooting air rifles at targets at specified lengths in various positions. Cadets on this team learn the valuable skills of marksmanship and patience to achieve precision accuracy.

The armed platoon drill team performs a memorized set of commands with weapons. Cadets are required to conduct several manual of arms movements with the weapons. Commands must be executed with a high level of precision and control. Commanders must demonstrate their ability to multitask while maintaining control.

For exhibition drill, cadets are required to create a unique choreographed routine with weapons, demonstrate a high level of synchronized movements, and produce a spirited entertainment value while still maintaining a military flair. Drill should incorporate several challenging spins, tosses, and exchanges. The routines are performed at national and state drill competitions, as well as at special events such as the Annual Military Inspection (AMI). This team requires a commitment.

Cadets’ military knowledge is put to the test in a College Bowl-style competition based on the NJROTC course curriculum, geography, world history, science, math, English, sports, entertainment and trivia.

Cadets in the unit’s Color Guard perform specified drill cards at national and state drill meets, in addition to presenting our nation’s colors at school football games and various events in the community. The Color Guard of a unit is extremely important because it represents the unit both in the community as well as in school. Members of the Color Guard will learn to perform drill movements with flags as well as Drill Rifles with precision.

Millington’s NJROTC drone team is the only unit in the state competing on the national level. Cadets learn to fly and program drones to compete in RADC events. Competitions require team members to complete a series of timed maneuvers, which include moving ping-pong balls into goals, flying through obstacles, and programming.

This elite team of senior cadets exhibit the unit’s highest standard of appearance and conduct for the most formal public events and ceremonies.

This advanced academic team prepares for college entrance exams in an academic bowl setting, featuring a mix of question drawing from college-preparation standards, military curriculum, and current events.

The Orienteering Team competes in navigational exercises using a compass and map. Team members train for a race through a series of fixed points on the map in the shortest amount of time in a mentally and physically challenging contest.

This team performs a memorized set of commands without weapons. Commands must be executed with a high level of precision and control. No prop (weapon) shall be incorporated into unarmed drill. Command voice and control become paramount to the overall success of this team.

This team designs a creative routine without weapons or props that consists of various formation changes, hand and arm movements, and foot stomps. Routines should incorporate a high level of synchronized movements. Choreographed movements must demonstrate a cohesive mirror-like effect. Spacing and timing are critical to the overall success of this competitive team. This routine is performed at national and state drill competitions as well as at events in the community.
